Fortress
The CHOJIJIN
Fortress was built in 1656 to prevent attacks
by countries Several historic battles were fought
here. Byeonginyangyo (the French distubance of
1866) Sinmyyangyo(the American disturbance of
1871) and The Yunyangho Incident (the Japanese
disturbance of 1875). Despite Having inferior
weapons, Korean soldiers fought against them fiercely.
The result of Yunyoho Incident was the Ganghwa
Treaty, signed after the battle on February 22,
1876. This was Korea's first modern treaty under
foreign pressure. |

Pyeonghwa Observatory
Ganghwa
Pyeonghwa Obesrvatory(GPO) opened september 5
2008. It was built in Chilsanli Yangsa Myeon where
access had been limited to authourized people
since late 2006. Everyone who visits The GPO can
see and close feel the close present of north
Korea. The basement and fourth floor are used
for a private room for military . There are shops
which sell principle products of Ganghwa and north
korea on first floor.
It has restaurant and guest room management offices,
second floor furnishings include a telescope,
and many materials such as policy about reunification
of north and south korea and comparison date between
both countries of the military strength, etc.

Ganghwa
Dolmen
Here in
Ganghwa, we will see The Remains of Megalithic
Tombs and actors caved Dolmen. These were used
by The Ancient Korea ruing eute.
The largest of table dolmen in Gnghwa is located
in Bugeun-ri, Hajeom-myeon and was registered
by UNESCO in December 2000. The cap stone is
6.4 meters long by 5.2 meters wide and weights
approximately 150-225 tons.
The cap stone was supported by 2 supporting
stones and it is thought that 2 other disappeared
stones blocked the dolmen on each side but have
since.
There are about 150 dolmen in Ganghwa, 70 are
registered as World Heritage. |
